The official Appalachian Trail maps are essential hiking materials for both thru and section hikers. Each map is focused on the Appalachian Trail and overlaps with the neighboring maps, ideal for long-distance hikes and planning. The surrounding area and additional side trails are also included. An easy-to-use elevation profile shows the distance to the next campsite or shelter, side trails, and water sources. For added interest, maps indicate road crossings, waterfalls, and scenic areas. Maps are both water- and tear-resistant.

The Tennessee-North Carolina edition, revised in 2016, covers 304 miles from Damascus, Virginia, near the Tennessee state line to the southern end of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Fontana Dam, North Carolina, including parts of the Cherokee and Pisgah National Forests. This set includes four maps on two sheets.

  • Maps 1 & 2: Tennessee-North Carolina; Damascus, Virginia, to Indian Grave Gap, Tennessee, including Roan Highlands and Laurel Fork Falls
    Seven-color, 1:63,360-scale topographic maps with 100 foot contour intervals. 1 inch = 1 mile.
  • Maps 3 & 4: Tennessee-North Carolina; Indian Grave Gap to Davenport Gap including Max Patch and Big Bald
    Seven-color, 1:63,360-scale topographic maps with 100 foot contour intervals. 1 inch = 1 mile.

  1. Bought this as a gift 5 Star Review

    (Submitted on Aug 20th 2020)

I did not see the product, but the recipient of the maps was happy with them. He said they were similar to ones he used to have when he had a boat as far as being mostly weather proof.

  5. Great 5 Star Review

  7. Not Impressed 3 Star Review

    (Submitted on Oct 2nd 2018)

The Georgia and North Carolina Maps I purchased a few (5-6) years ago are superior in every way to the new maps.
I was disappointed when my new maps arrived.
The map starting into the Smokies doesn't seem to overlap with my old North Carolina map.

  8. Don't leave home without it 5 Star Review

    (Submitted on Jul 10th 2018)

Maps of the AT from the ATC are by far the most reliable, most useful, and easiest to use. The included elevation profile is indispensable.

I've only used maps from another source once...won't do that again.

ATC sourced maps are the absolute best.

  9. Good but. 4 Star Review

    (Submitted on May 10th 2018)

The maps are missing the Smokey Mountains. The NC Georgia maps also do not have it. I purchased the Smokey mountains map from the National Park services and it is ok but does not have water sites.

  10. Updated map 4 Star Review

    (Submitted on Mar 17th 2018)

Has numerous updates since the map I used on a 2005 thru-hike was published.
