Description

The official Appalachian Trail maps are essential hiking materials for both thru and section hikers. Each map is focused on the Appalachian Trail and overlaps with the neighboring maps, ideal for long-distance hikes and planning. The surrounding area and additional side trails are also included. An easy-to-use elevation profile shows the distance to the next campsite or shelter, side trails, and water sources. For added interest, maps indicate road crossings, waterfalls, and scenic areas. Maps are both water- and tear-resistant.

Maps 5 & 6: Appalachian Trail across Maryland and the entire Catoctin Trail. Maps include: Cunningham Falls, Gambrill, Gathland, Greenbrier, South Mountain & Washington Mountain State Parks; and, Catoctin Mountain Park (National Park Service).
Published by Potomac Appalachian Trail Club: 1:63,360-scale, 100 foot contour interval topographic maps. 1 inch = 1 mile. GPS compatible. Revised 2017.

The official Appalachian Trail map for Maryland isalso available for sale in an official Appalachian Trail Guide Set (#106) with Northern Virginia for more in-depth planning.

Proceeds from the sale of these maps go back into the protection of the Appalachian Trail experience through volunteer-based conservation led by the ATC, a private, non-profit organization founded in 1925 to create this treasured footpath, now part of the national park system.

not a lot of info here. I do prefer the virginia maps over these. I would like for both sides to be printed on.

    Quality map

I have used a fair number of all weather hiking maps and can immediately comment on the quality of this map's construction. The map has a nice finish and appears it will stand up to weather well. My one complaint is there is a lot of unused space, specifically in the map's main section. It would perhaps be better if the map was divided into 7 individual maps for each individual section, this way you would not always need to carry around the entire map, which is slightly bulky to handle. All geographic descriptions are well displayed and topographic lines are clear. All labels and geographic markers are well marked and clear.
