Heather "Anish" Anderson is the first woman known to complete the hiking triple crown--Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail--in a calendar year, all 8,000 miles by age 25. So, she did the (ab)normal thing for a long-distance hiker: settled down, got married, started a career. But her urge for the wilderness was too strong--marriage crumbled, job pitched, she was back in the mountains, often at a 40-miles-a-day clip.
Pain, fear, loneliness, and dangers (weather, large fauna, rattlesnakes) do not outweigh here her joy in leaving the mundane behind for greater rewards in community and self-fulfillment.
