Product Description

The Massanutten is a narrow range of parallel ridges approximately 50 miles in length. It runs roughly north-south, and separates the North and South Forks of the Shenandoah River. The mountain lies southeast of the intersection of Interstates 66 and 81. The 71-mile long Massanutten National Recreation Trail runs along the ridges surrounding Fort Valley. South of US211, the 19-mile Massanutten South Trail runs the length of the southern section of the mountain. The Guide to Massanutten Mountain Hiking Trails covers 50 additional trails and circuits. This set includes one planning guide and two water- and tear-resistant maps on two sheets (scale, 1:63,360), plus a National Geographic map of Great Smokey Mountains National Park (scale, 1:62,500). The planning guide contains background information, points of interest, and general advice. The format allows for the inclusion of shelters, water sources, and road crossings. Each map is focused on the Appalachian Trail and overlaps with the neighboring maps. The surrounding area and additional side trails are also included. An easy-to-use elevation profile shows the distance to the next campsite or shelter, side trails, and water sources. For added interest, maps indicate road crossings, waterfalls, and scenic areas.
