Guide to Great North Mountain Trails

Guide to Great North Mountain Trails

Product Description

Guide to Great North Mountain Trails covers over 40 hikes of the Lee Ranger District, George Washington and Jefferson national forests in Virginia and West Virginia. The Great North Mountain is a narrow range of parallel ridges approximately 50 miles in length. These mountain ridges are generally taller than the Massanutten Mountains to the east, so that views to the east often stretch over the Massanutten and on to Shenandoah National park on the Blue Ridge. Views to the west reach out over a sea of mountain ridges into the Alleghenies. This guide offers a variety of hiking experiences, including backpacking and dayhiking circuits. Despite the pocket size, maps clearly show streams, elevations, key landmarks, and trail configurations. Turn-by-turn directions make it easy to drive to the trailhead and to follow the route highlighted on the map.

Notable hikes include:

  • Sulphur Springs Gap Trail
  • Big Schloss Trail
  • Chimney Rock Trail
  • Laurel Run Trail
  • Orkney Springs Trail

Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. Second Edition, 2008.
