The Disappearance of Geraldine Largay on the Appalachian Trail
by D. Dauphinee
Hiker Geraldine Largay went missing on the Trail in Maine in July 2013 north of Saddleback Mountain, triggering one of the largest search-and-rescue operations in the state's history--to no avail, although she apparently survived in the woods more than two weeks. Her body was found by chance by surveyors two years later. The author seeks to explain how she went astray, the magnitude of the search, and what lessons might be learned from the saga.
