Appalachian Trail Conservancy - Join the Journey

$3.17 Per Day Per Mile

The Appalachian Trail is a volunteer-built, volunteer -maintained, and volunteer-managed national park—the skinniest in the United States and the only one in which the overwhelming majority of the field work is done by volun teers. Still, it costs the Appalachian Trail Conservancy—the lead caretaker by an unique set of agreements with the federal government and many of the 14 Trail states—more than $3.00 per mile, every day of the week, to support the work of those volunteers, protect the Trail and its corridor, undertake necessary research, provide free information to ever-growing audiences, and underwrite a land-trust opera tion that adds resources to the official corridor.

Almost half of our funding for these programs comes from individual Trail-lovers—our members and other hikers—through their dues or additional contributions. You can help the project in this manner, too, by adding a small (tax-deductible) contribution to your order. It will go to the same cause—the Appalachian Trail—as the proceeds of items sold on these pages.
